Design: Where to begin when designing.

Designing corrugated boxes involves several steps, including:

  1. Understand the product: Understand the product that will be packaged in the box, including its size, weight, and fragility. This will help to determine the size and strength of the box required.

  2. Review the packaging requirements: Review the packaging requirements, such as shipping and storage conditions, and any specific packaging regulations that need to be followed.

  3. Choose the right material: Choose the right material for the box, such as paperboard or corrugated fiberboard, based on the product requirements, shipping conditions and budget.

  4. Select the flute size: Select the flute size for the box based on the product weight and size, as well as the desired level of protection.

  5. Create a prototype: Create a prototype of the box using packaging design software or by building a physical mock-up. This will help to visualize the final product and make any necessary adjustments.

  6. Consider the printing: Consider the printing options for the box, such as the number of colors, the placement of the colors, and the type of printing (flexographic, offset, digital, etc.).

  7. Think about the closure: Think about the closure of the box and how it will be opened and closed. This could include the use of flaps, tapes, or other types of closures.

  8. Perform tests: Perform tests on the box to ensure that it meets the required specifications. This could include strength testing, compression testing, and environmental testing.

  9. Optimize for logistics: Optimize the box design for logistics, considering the cube utilization, weight and ease of handling.

  10. Incorporate branding: Incorporate branding into the design of the box, to make the box stand out and to create a stronger connection with the customers.

  11. Review and finalize: Review the design and make any necessary adjustments before finalizing the design and sending it to the manufacturer for production.

It's important to keep in mind that the design of the box should not only protect the product but also be visually appealing, easy to handle and easy to recycle.
